I never imagined skateboarding to be fashionable. Now if there was ever a reason to hop on a skateboard, this is it (for me anyways). Corbus Boards has created fish shaped aluminum skateboards. Not only do they look amazing in the light of day, but they also have illuminated riser pads which give an underglow effect at night.
Check out this new mash-up release from dj Girl Talk (a.k.a. Gregg Gillis) out of Pittsburgh PA. Definitely a hot album, Girl Talk’s aptly named label, Illegal Art, elected to release it with the same pricing model as Radiohead’s Rainbows; name your price. This fliexible pricing structure is possibly a strategy to avoid the impossibility of clearing hundreds of samples.
One of our long-time favorite artists has teamed up with Brooklyn-based skateshop KCDC to create these limited edition Chukka Low Vans. The run of 100 can only be had at KCDC’s store. We were a bit slow on the uptake, so there’s no guarantee any remain. God Speed!
Project Colorize is a collaboration between Rayban and Marie Claire magazine to turn New York City into an open art gallery for the month of July. The program selected five popular contemporary artist to design billboard in various spots around the city.
The Billboard above was designed by one of the coolest artists on the scene, Ron English. If you look closely you will realize that Mr. Lincoln is actually Mr. Obama.
Salute to Rayban for being so creative, the new flourescent wayfarers are sure to be prevelant this season.
A crisp, clean Polo shirt doesn’t last long on a small child. To remedy this, Ralph Lauren Childrenswear has created a unique opportunity for kids to paint their own white polo shirt with bright paints, a selection of brushes and fun stamps. Not only is it an adorable twist on the preppy classic, but parents can breathe a little easier too. The perfect outdoor activity is as beneficial as it is fun, proceeds from the kits will be donated to the Pink Pony Fund of the Polo Ralph Lauren Foundation benefiting Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center’s Pediatric Art Program.
Good news for us multitaskers who just CAN’T ignore the phone while we’re in the car: there’s a new BlueAnt Supertooth 3 handsfree speakerphone provides a safer, legal alternative to talking on your cell while you drive
Simply upload your address book into the slick, rechargeable unit, attach to your sun-visor, program your system and voila - when calls come in, Supertooth will announce the name or number (poncy British accent option available). Say “OK” to accept the call ….or don’t and get back to singing to the radio. The system adjusts sound levels automatically and also reconnects dropped calls.
New Yorkers went ga ga for The Gates (remember those huge orange flag structures in Central Park?), but now there’s a more ‘splashy’ exhibition to check out in NYC from June 26-October 13. Organized by the Public Art Fund, “The New York City Waterfalls” by Olafur Eliasson is comprised of four man-made waterfalls found in New York Harbor–at Governors Island, Brooklyn Piers, the Brooklyn Bridge and Pier 35.
